Batten Ceiling Automation

Drive a sculptural ceiling from a handful of wave parameters, then watch the battens rationalise: profile, spacing, steam bend limits, colour, backing and track system all resolve into a live RCP, a batten schedule with straight vs bent lineal metres, coordinated services, and an indicative order pack.

What this demonstrates

Product design automation for batten manufacturers. The same engine we build for cladding and batten manufacturers: design surface in, rationalised order pack out, driven by real product masters.

Batten-back clips slide onto extruded aluminium top-hat rails.

Irrational segments detected. 177.6 m of batten falls tighter than the 2.4 m factory bend limit for 42 x 42 Square (min 0.68 m observed).

To fix, either: reduce wave amplitude (currently 350 mm) or wave counts, pick a profile with a smaller minimum bend radius, or auto-rationalise into straight chord segments.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How these demos relate to the systems we build for clients.

What does this batten ceiling tool actually rationalise?

It takes a wavy design surface and lays timber battens over it at your chosen profile, spacing and orientation. Every batten is analysed segment by segment: local radius, straight run, steam-bendable arc, and any section that exceeds the factory bend limit. The schedule, RCP and mock pricing update live.

Where do the bend limits come from?

Each profile carries a factory-allowable minimum steam bend radius. Segments tighter than that are flagged as over-bend and would either need laminated construction, a different profile, or a reworked geometry. In a production deployment those limits come straight from the manufacturer's own product data.

Can this generate a real ordering pack?

The PDF export includes an RCP, a per-profile schedule with straight vs steam-bent lineal metres, cut-length totals, backing and track areas, and indicative pricing. In a manufacturer deployment the same model emits nested cut lists, bending schedules, per-batten shop drawings and CNC data.

Is there a cladding version?

Yes. The same engine drives wall and facade cladding automation with real cladding systems (open-joint rainscreen, click-lock, cassette), curved and folded surfaces, and full setting-out. Ask us for a walkthrough.

Want this for your products?

Everything in the Playground is built with the same stack we deploy for clients: configurators driven by real product masters, planners connected to BIM data, and AR experiences served straight from the product catalogue.
